Peripheral Blood: Erythrocytes are hypochromic
and microcytic; large variation in size; possible
thrombocytosis

Bone Marrow: Erythrocyte precursors are smaller
and more numerous than normal and have
shaggy cytoplasm. There is nuclear cytoplasmic
asynchrony, with cytoplasmic maturation lagging
behind that of the nucleus.
