Page 25 - War Brides
P. 25
Even though it may sound strange, the Second World War brought cultures
together. Although propaganda was used against Germany and Japan, The War
Bride Act stimulated integration of “allies” and “enemies”. In the eyes of some
Americans, all war brides represented a positive image of America by their
search for the ‘American Dream’. But integrating was not always easy, especially
for those from enemy countries, due to homesickness, racism, anti-German
sentiment and the Immigration Act.
