Explain the hearing mechanism by completing the sentences in each box.

(i) Gelombang bunyi dikumpul oleh cuping telinga dan disalurkan ke dalam salur telinga .
Sound waves are collected by the ear pinna and channelled in to ear cannal .

(ii) Apabila gelombang bunyi mengenai gegendang telinga , bahagian itu akan bergetar.
Getaran ini akan menyebabkan osikel bergetar . Osikel menguatkan dan
menghantarkan getaran ke jendela bujur .
When the sound waves hit the eardrum , it will vibrate. These vibrations in turn make the ossicles to vibrate . The
ossicles amplify the vibrations and pass them to the oval window .

(iii) Getaran tingkap bujur menyebabkan reseptor-reseptor dalam koklea bergetar dan
menggerakkan unjuran halus sel-sel deria. Apabila dirangsang, sel-sel deria ini menghasilkan
impuls saraf .
The vibration of the oval window causes the receptors in the cochlea to vibrate thus shaking up the tiny hair of the
sensory cells. When the sensory nerve cells are stimulated, they generate nerve impulses .

(iv) Saraf auditori menghantar impuls saraf itu ke otak untuk ditafsirkan.
Auditory nerve sends the nerve impulses to the brain to be interpreted.

(c) Walau bagaimanapun, dalam sesetengah keadaan, sel-sel epitelium tersebut akan merembes mukus

However, in certain cases, the epithelial cells secrete excessive mucus. Give an example of the situation and state the effect.
Selesema, molekul bahan kimia tidak dapat dikesan oleh reseptor bau. Hidung tidak boleh menghidu
