Synopsis
The poem portrays expressions of the persona’s feelings of sadness, regret, the
pain of being ignored and neglected. He compares himself and his situation to things
that are disposable and discarded without a backward glance.

• Personification – ‘the toothless stapler’ a person with no teeth and so unable
to bite
