                                           EN23202 Creative English Reading


               Mattayom 3  Semester 1                                                     60 hours 1.5 credit
                       This course aims to help students develop their reading comprehension, vocabulary and writing skills. This
               course  will  provide  students  with  vocabulary  building,  practice  in  comprehension,  useful  reading  skills,  such  as

               predicting, skimming, scanning, reading for details and understanding cause and effect. It will also build upon student’s
               skills in writing descriptive and narrative essays.
                       The course will also help students to learn to follow instructions given verbally by the teacher or written in

               textbook exercises, quizzes, and exams.  The student’s ability to follow instructions will facilitate their ability to
               complete learning exercises correctly and improve their writings, quiz and test scores. Following instructions correctly
               will improve students’ overall performance in many areas.
                       Throughout this course students will gain experience in selecting keys words to scan for, and in skimming and

               scanning texts for key words in order to find details for quick answers to questions.  Skimming and scanning texts for key
               words is necessary to complete exercises, quizzes and examinations within the time allotted and will improve their
               ability to quickly comprehend the gist of a reading, be it a newspaper article, essay or test reading.  This ability will also

               help prepare students to search for information, summarize and present results verbally or in written form.
                       Students will also practice reading aloud from texts to build their English pronunciation, proper grammar use,
               pacing and speaking fluency.  This will also help students to build their vocabulary and confidence in speaking English in
               conversation.

               Objectives:
               At the end of this course, students will be able to:
                       1. Act in compliance with requests, instructions, clarifications and explanations heard and read.

                       2. Accurately read aloud texts, news, advertisements and short poems by observing the principles of reading.
                       3. Specify and write various forms of non-text information related to sentences and texts heard or read.
                       4. Choose/specify the topic, main idea and supporting details and express opinions about what has been

               heard and read from various types of media, as well as provide justifications and examples for illustration.
                       5. Speak and write appropriately to ask for and give data, explain compare and express opinions about what
               has been heard or read.

                       6. Speak/ write to summarize the main idea, theme and topic identified from analysis of matters/news/
               incidents/situations of interest to society.
                       7. Compare and explain similarities and difference between the lifestyles and culture of native speakers and
               those of Thais and apply them appropriately.

                       8. Search for, collect and summarize the data/facts related to other learning areas from learning sources, and
               present them through speaking/writing.
                       9. Use foreign languages in conducting research, collecting and summarizing knowledge/various data from the

               media and different learning sources for further education and livelihood.
