3. For one-syllable adjectives that end with a vowel and a consonant, double the
consonant and add ‘-er’ for the comparative degree and double the consonant and
add ‘-est’ for the superlative.
以一个元音和一个辅音作为结尾的单音节形容词,我们就必须重复辅音并加上
“-er”来构成比较级,以及重复辅音并加上“-est”来构成最高级。
e.g. mad madder maddest

4. For adjectives with two-syllables or more, just add ‘more’ for the comparative degree
and ‘most’ for the superlative.
有些双音节或多音节的形容词必须添加“more”来构成比较级,以及添加“most”
来构成最高级。
e.g. cheerful more cheerful most cheerful
expensive more expensive most expensive
5. For two-syllable adjectives ending with ‘-y’, change the ‘-y’ to ‘-i’ and add ‘-er’ for
the comparative degree and ‘-est’ for the superlative.
以“-y”作为结尾的双音节形容词,我们必须把“-y”换成“-i”,并添加“-er”
来构成比较级或“-est”来构成最高级。
e.g. wealthy wealthier wealthiest
tiny tinier tiniest
6. For two-syllable adjectives ending in ‘-er’ or ‘-ow’, just add ‘-er’ and ‘-est’ to form the
comparative and superlative degrees respectively.
以“-er”或“-ow”作为结尾的双音节形容词,我们只需要添加“-er”以及“-
est”来构成比较级和最高级。
e.g. shallow shallower shallowest
clever cleverer cleverest
7. The three degrees of comparison for irregular adjectives are as follow:
