Update: AISWA Project Getting
creative with capabilities
The General Capabilities encompass the
knowledge, skills, behaviour and dispositions that
will assist students to live and work successfully in
the twenty-first century (SCSA).
Workshop 2 began with enthusiasm as schools shared
what they have done or are planning to do as part of
the project. The enormous diversity across schools was
evident. Some are focusing their work with one class or year level, others are addressing different capabilities in
different learning areas, and some are focusing on multiple year levels and learning areas. A special mention to
Cornerstone Christian College for a particularly engaging presentation with well-prepared props!
Danielle Cavanagh from ACARA led the group
through a variety of activities which enabled
teachers to look at the capabilities through a
Learning Area lens. Staff involved also enjoyed
the opportunity to discuss the possibilities with
teachers from other schools, as well as spend
time on school specific planning.
Throughout Terms 3 and 4, schools will continue to foreground Capabilities in their schools. The final showcase
in October will be a fantastic opportunity to share and celebrate the work of participating schools.
