important fast-growing species at present. The objectives are 1) to compare the effect of vary

sample sizes to the durability of Ai and 2) to find the suitable sample size of Ai for the wood

durability study. The sample of Ai has been cut according to the American Wood-Preservers’
Association Standard no. E7-93 to 3 sizes, 45 stakes each, which are 2.5x5x50 cm., 1.9x1.9x45

cm., 0.4x3.8x25.4 cm. and the RFD stake test size: 5x5x50 cm. All stakes have been penetrated

into ground as a Graveyard test to the real weathering of wood durability plots in Chiang-Mai,

Nakorn Sri Thammarat and Surat Thani Silvicultural Research Station. The wood durability of stakes
has been collected. The results reveal that after 10 months sample size 0.4x3.8x25.4 cm. has 27

rejected stakes. The sample size 5x5x50 cm. has no rejected stake. And there are almost none

rejected stake of all sizes in Chiang-Mai and Nakorn Sri Thammarat durability plots. The sample
stakes in all plots are destroyed less than 25%. The compared study of Hevea brasiliensis

Muell.Arg. (Hb), which is a perishable species, has been set in sizes of 1.9x1.9x45 cm.,

0.4x3.8x25.4 cm. and 5x5x50 cm., 10 stakes each at Surat Thani Silvicultural Research Station. It
shows that after 2 months each sample size of Hb rejects 9, 1 and 0 stakes, respectively. And

after 6 months all stakes are rejected.

The results of this Ai study cannot obviously conclude that the sample size has
effect to the durability of wood, especially to 2.5x5x50 cm. and 5x5x50 cm. sample sizes that the

RFD has been use since the period of study is too short for the study of wood durability which is

normally an unidentified period of study. So that the study of sample size effect to the durability of
wood should be repeated for the correct and reliable results.
