ECO-FRIENDLY VENTURES

WORLD ENVIRONMENTAL DAY

Global warming has become a reality as the
Earth and its inhabitants are facing an unprece-
dented situation with the rising levels of carbon
dioxide in the atmosphere. The United Nations
identifies June 5 as the World Environment Day
and every year a theme is chosen by UNEP to
observe. Theme selected for 2019 is- “Air Pollu-
tion”.
Bhavan has taken a small yet meaningful step
in this direction to sensitize the young children
to the dangers of environmental degradation by
generating awareness of the importance of pro-
tecting our environment. The kindergarten wing
of IES observed the World Environment Day on
June 2nd at IES Kindergarten and Jack & Jill
Nursery School (branch of Bhavans at Mangaf),
To mark the occasion, the children came attired
in green- the color of nature.

With the notion of beating air pollution, the stu-
dents of IES, from grade 1 to 4 adorned the bul-
letin boards of their class with pictures and in-
formation related to the theme of the year- Air
Pollution – we can’t stop breathing but we can
do something about the quality of air that we
breathe. “Best out of Waste”, an exclusive sci-
ence competition with the theme of creating sci-
ence working models, still models, toys, diorama,
projects etc. from waste materials was organized
for grades 3 and 4. Grade 2 students depicted
their artistic talents by making beautifully deco-
rated paper bags and saying “no to plastic”. Stu-
dents of grade 1 also contributed wholeheartedly
by making bookmarks and writing slogans.
An online science quiz was conducted for class-
es 5 to 10 to excite the scientific temperament in
school children. It also imparted the importance
of conservation and sustainable development to Bhavan’s Eco Club, a motivating venture to trig-
save the environment. Department of Hindi also ger the scientific spirit of the bhavanites was in-
organized various programs and activities. Based augurated and new office bearers took charges
on the topic ‘Vigyapan ke rang, paryavaran ke on the same day.
