Welcome from the
Western Golf Association
Since 1899, the Western Golf Association has been
proud to conduct the Western Amateur, an interna-
tional championship as prestigious and challenging
as any in the game of golf.
This week, we welcome our 2022 Western Amateur
contestants to Exmoor Country Club, one of the most
storied clubs in the greater Chicago area. Since 1903,
this Donald Ross masterpiece of a venue has hosted
18 national championships.
That includes three Western Amateurs, starting with
Joe Desch John Kaczkowski
the 1904 championship won by H. Chandler Egan. Chairman of the Board President & CEO
Frank Stranahan won the 1952 Western Amateur here, Western Golf Association Western Golf Association
and Chris Williams outlasted a field that included
Abraham Ancer, Max Homa and Justin Thomas in 2012.

Since 1930, 78 Exmoor caddies have been awarded
full tuition and housing Evans Scholarships, Joe Desch
including 14 students who are attending leading Chairman of the Board
universities nationwide this year. Through their Western Golf Association
support of this championship, the Exmoor members
have established two new Endowed Named John Kaczkowski

We are so grateful for their generosity. Western Golf Association
Over the next few days, this field of 156 players will
compete in a grueling format designed to identify the
very best. Chick Evans, Francis Ouimet, Jack Nicklaus,
Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods all toppled fields of
their peers to have their names etched on the George R.
Thorne Trophy.
