Players in basketball try to shoot for the team and the opponents
try to block. In their process of scoring, they carry out a number
of skills. They pass, block, dribble and shoot the ball. The ball
can be advanced in the court by passing it to a teammate or
bouncing it while walking or running. One can’t lift or drag the
ball.
There is a scoring line at each
end called the three-point line. If
the player shoots the ball behind
the three-point line the shooting
team scores three points but if the
shooting is done from in front of
the line the score is two. If a player
commits a foul, the opposition
team is given two free throws.
The opposition players can’t block or disturb the free throws.
The score from the free throw is counted one. At last the team
with the highest score wins the game. Scores are usually very
big. A hundred plus score is common in a high level game.
The game is generally played in four quarters of ten minutes.
But if the scores tie in the regulation time, an additional five
minutes is allowed. There is also a half time of fifteen minutes.
Teams exchange baskets for the second half.
