Basketball was developed
by Dr. James Naismith

in 1891 in the USA. The

modern day basketball

has been in practice since

1950. It is played in many
levels and both by men

and women. A world-cup tournament is organized between

countries. Professional leagues are conducted between clubs
and it is also popular in schools and colleges. It is included in

the Olympic Games too. Currently the USA has the best men’s

team and Russia is the best in women’s category.

Nepal is not very good at basketball. A few games are organized.

College level basketball is popular in a few cities. It is also
included in the National Games. The popularity of this game is

gradually increasing in Nepal.
