had developed a strong habit of protesting partiality and unjust. At the
university, once he joined a protest boycott and was suspended from
there.
A great turn in his life came after he was suspended from the university.
Jongintaba, his guardian announced that he had arranged marriages
for Mandela and Justice, the heir. Both of them obviously didn’t want to
marry so they ran away to Johannesburg, the largest city in South Africa.
In Johannesburg Mandela completed his BA degree and studied law.
He was introduced to politics and got to realize how the whites were
exploiting the black people. He joined African National Congress (ANC),
which campaigned against discrimination and fought to win rights for
Africans. Mandela and his friends formed the ANC youth league and
urged for a stronger movement to end the discrimination.
In 1948 the South African
government introduced
Apartheid which formally
segregated the people
of different races. Under
Apartheid, the black
people were given little
facilities and economic
opportunities. Life had
really become very hard for
the blacks by then.
The ANC then believed that the government needed stronger pressure
to end this segregation. It launched the Defiance Campaign against
Apartheid and got its cadres and members to break the laws. In 1956
