light becomes less extreme, and slowly starts to become something
I recognize. I see it is sunlight coming in from a window right beside

the bed I am lying in. I squint and start to look outside. Then something
grabs my attention real quick. I hear the constant ringing turn into a

telephone. I then hear my own voice.

“Hey you’ve reached John and Bethany Smith, I’m sorry we couldn’t get
to the phone, but just leave a message and we will get back to you. Have

a good day!”

I stare at the phone that is lying on my night stand, and the next thing

I know the phone goes “beep.” The sweetest most elegant voice I have
ever heard comes out.

“Hey babe you looked so peacefully sleeping and I know you are still

super sad about losing Jacob last week, so I did not want to wake you up.
I thought it would be sweet if I went to pick up some donuts and coffee

for us, so I just got in the car and I am pulling out of the driveway right
now. I love you, and I will see you in a few minutes.”

Simultaneously my eyes opened up as wide as they could, and my mouth

dropped. I jumped up out of my bed, and started sprinting down the

hallway towards the front door. As I was running I yelled “NO. Jacob!”
I reached for the doorknob, but I threw the door open. I heard the
squealing of tires trying to stop, but It was just too late.
