Pasang Lhamu Sherpa is the first Nepalese woman to climb the summit of
Mount Everest. She was born on December 10, 1961. She had a deep interest
in mountaineering since her childhood. She had successfully climbed a few
mountains before she climbed the Everest. On April 12, 1993 she reached
the top of the Everest with five other Sherpas. But her return was a tragedy.
The good weather suddenly changed and she got buried in the snow. This
was the end of her life. She was later honoured with a number of prizes and
titles. She became the first woman to receive the Nepal Tara title. Road,
mountain, hall and even the breed of crop in Nepal have been named after
her.
