While Malala was in her primary education, that region of

Pakistan was in the influence of Taliban, a Muslim extremist

group fighting to enforce the strict Muslim law. The Taliban

didn’t permit the girls to attend schools. Most people in her

region didn’t send their daughters to school and didn’t like

          others sending either.

Malala started developing a deep concern on girl education

in her region. She started encouraging people to send their

daughters to school. Her father was always there with her.

In September 2008, Malala spoke in Peshawar about female

education. She clearly stated that education was a basic right of

girls and No one should prevent girls from attending schools.

Her speech was covered by televisions and newspapers and it

brought a new wave in the entire region.

          By 2009, Malala was widely

          recognized as a child education

          activist. She was regularly

          featured in radio, television and

          newspapers. A documentary was

          made about her. She received

          the National Peace Award for

Youth in 2011. A secondary school was renamed in her honour.
