Malai Toom
Pointed Oval Garlands
Malai toom is a type of traditional Thai garland. It has a pointed oval shape.
Malai toom is usually made from small flowers such as white gardenias and
jasmine flowers, or from petals such as rose petals and orchid petals. These petals
or small flowers are pierced onto long needle or midrib of coconut frond. Malai
toom can be made plain with a single type of material or with a simple diamond
pattern at the center. Malai toom are used as parts of other garlands, as decoration,
or as an offering to the Buddha image when many pieces are arranged in a vase.
