Krathong
Floral Floats
A krathong is made from a slice of banana tree trunk, with folded banana
leaves attached around the perimeter to form a lotus-flower shape. Fresh flowers,
a candle, and incense sticks complete the arrangement. This beautiful flower
work will then be floated on the rivers during the Loy Krathong Festival. The
Thais use krathong to express their gratitude to the Goddess of the River, Hindu
Goddess Ganga. Loy Krathong Festival takes place on the full moon evening of
the twelfth month in the Thai lunar calendar, which usually falls in November.
A visit to Thailand during Loy Krathong Festival is a marvelous and memorable
experience.
