Safety at Home
■ Enter emergency numbers in your mobile
phone’s contact list and post them near every
phone in your home. Include 9-1-1 or the
designated emergency number, the national
Poison Help hotline (1-800-222-1222), and
the phone numbers of your family’s healthcare
providers, as well as any other important
numbers.
■ Make an emergency preparedness kit and have
an emergency preparedness plan in place. Visit
redcross.org for more information about how to
prepare for disasters and other emergencies.
■ Box D-2 contains a checklist of special safety
considerations for households with young
children.

To Prevent Fire and Burns
¨ ¨Matches and lighters are stored out of the
reach of children.
¨ ¨Space heaters, if used, are placed out of the
reach of children and away from curtains.
¨ ¨Pot and pan handles are turned toward the
back of the stove and out of the reach of
children.
To Prevent Electrical Shock
¨ ¨Safety covers are placed on all unused ¨ ¨Electrical appliances are away from sinks, tubs,
