As white educators, how can we show up for racial
justice, as fierce allies and co-conspirators? This
conversation with Heather Clements and Alice Hale
(faculty members at Chabot College, co-founders of
FWA--Fierce White Allies) and Tracy Burt (faculty at
CCSF, former MIP leadership team/Student Equity
Coordinator, currently co-facilitating Child Development
Racial Justice Team) will share their journeys, fumblings,
insights and successes as they explore essential
questions for conscious white educators: What roles I
can play as an individual, personally and professionally,
to dismantle systems of racism? Where can my efforts
make the most impact? How can I use my privilege to
shift the axis, leaning us towards justice? What does it
mean to be conscious of my whiteness and acknowledge
how white supremacy may show up in my thought
patterns and ways of teaching.
We explicitly invite other white educators, and others,
who identify as receiving white privilege and/or
have made or would like to make a commitment to
interrupting white supremacy within educational
institutions and looking at the history of white
supremacy and how it filters through our work with
students and colleagues. All are invited.
