The trial of Curdec:
The next person escorted in by the knights was feisty. It was obvious he
viewed me as some bureaucrat who was under him. I made sure to
make it painful.
Curdec was a rich merchant who owned the warehouse where the
murder occured. He was a part of the local economic problem, as he
was selling food at an absurdly inflated price. Due to a recent
thievery, he hired young guards, as they come cheap.
On the day of the murder, Curdec was out looking for his wife’s lover,
to kill him of course. He was talked down from it by a colleague.
He seemed to fake care for the lost boy, or at least only had it at a
shallow level. As per his words, “It’s his own damn fault for getting
himself stabbed”, and “Of course the guards’ equipment isn’t the best
but we’re barely turning a profit anyways”. Curdec wouldn’t change
a thing even if he could. He had nothing to say for himself.
First Verdict: I held him partially accountable for the murder, as he
was aiding desperation and starvation directly. His warehouse has
been seized and a fifty thousand gold piece fine paid.
Second Verdict: He is being investigated for conspiracy of murder,
targeting Tardrae, the wife’s lover. Should he be convicted, he will
spend three winters in the gaol.
