World


         Environment Day
















        For healthy living, environment plays an
        important role. World Environment day is
        celebrated to spread awareness about the
        challenges, to  encourage people to  take
        action and to protect the environment.
        Vakkom Moulavi Foundation  Trust  in
        association with IEEE  Power and Energy
        Society  and  IEEE  Life  Members  Affinity
        Group celebrated  World  environment  day
        on 06 June, 2019. Prof.V. K. Damodaran,
        Dr.  T. Sabu (Head  -Projects, Centre for
        Environment & Development Studies and Dr.
        K. Soman (Former Head Resource Analysis
        Division, National Centre For Earth Science
        Studies) talked on the theme of the World
        Environment Day -2019 ‘Air Pollution”. Prof.
        V. K. Damodaran in his introductory speech
        stated that globally 92% of people are living
        by inhaling  air pollutants.  According  to
        World Health Organisation,  in many cities
        the pollution  level  has risen 5 times the
        acceptable standards of pollution.
        Dr.  T. Sabu described  how air pollution
        would become a major threat to big cities in
        India  on  a  scientific  basis  and  importance
        of controlling the production  of carbon
        dioxide which is at present possible only
        by focussing on different ways of reducing
        carbon footprint in nature. He also mentioned   services by humans so as to reduce harmful emissions
        that climate change  can be controlled  by     in the environment, protection of forests, reconfiguration
