SMART CITIES -
Opportunities & Challenges
According to United Nations
projections on Urbanisation 64%
of the developing world and
86% of the developed world will
live in cities by 2050. There is
a rising demand for sustainable
environments that offer citizens
a high quality of life. With regard
to it, Vakkom Moulavi Foundation
Trust in collaboration with IEEE
Kerala Section, its PES and EMBS
chapters, Life Members and
SIGHT Affinity Groups organized
a one day brainstorming workshop
on “Smart Cities-Opportunities and
Challenges” on 22 December, 2018
at VMFT Hall, Thekkummoodu,
Thiruvananthapuram.
The objective of the seminar
was to lay a road map for local
self government officials, policy
makers, urban planners, energy
specialists, utility managers,
healthcare, and transportation
personnel, researchers, students,
academicians and general public
for addressing short term and
long term challenges which in
turn lead to successful project
implementation considering the
needs as well as priorities. Smart
City concept, data technologies
and applications in health, mobility
and waste management were the
sectors included in the discussion.
