                6. Project Summary (Max. 200 words):

The Geological Studies Unit needs to deliver the basic infrastructure in terms of laboratory
and academic administrative facilities to its faculty, research students and others. Besides
maintenance and upgradation of shared equipment and computational facilities, upkeep of
sample preparation laboratory, rock cutting and sedimentology laboratories are also important.
Maintenance of the GSU office and floor are included within this project.

Geological studies Unit also requires a research grade petrograpgic microscope for smooth
running of academic projects of GSU.
                7. Introduction with Background (Max. 300 words):
Since its inception in 1958, the Geological Studies Unit has provided basic research
infrastructural facilities to its faculties, Ph.D. students, Research Associates, technical staffs,
visiting scientists and trainees. The present project aims to cover the expenditures for this
                service.
                8. Description of the problem (Max. 300 words):
Modernisation and upgradation of equipment for microscopy, thin section preparation, fossil
preparation and fieldwork are essential for keeping pace with scientific developments
elsewhere. Maintenance of computer facility is needed particularly for visualization and
analysis of voluminous laboratory and field data, digital mapping and for efficient running of
                GIS based software and modelling.
                9. Objectives:
Objective of the present project is to provide basic infrastructural facilities for smooth running
and upkeep of the Geological Studies Unit, its laboratories, computational facilities and office.
                10. Study Area:
                N.A.
                11. Review and status of research and development in the subject (Max. 500 words):
