got an opportunity to buy some souvenirs for their
families as well.
The next day, we took a four hour drive to
Florence, the capital of the Italian region of Tuscany
and also the birth place of the Renaissance. Uffizi
Gallery, a famous art museum, has one of the best
collections of Italian paintings. Piazza della Signora
and the set of doors that face the front of the Duomo
are some of the great pieces of art works which were
actually a visual treat. Besides a leisurely stroll through
the leather markets, Ponte Vecchio Bridge proved to
be another major attraction in this wonderful city.
We were all amazed to see the famous Leaning Tower
of Pisa, a building blunder that has become Italy’s
engineering marvel; still intact after so many years.
On the next day, we set off for Rome, the capital
city of Italy. An ancient city, it is the home of
intricate art work and the history attached with
every monument here left us all enthralled. The
amphitheatre Colosseum, one of the most imposing
ancient structures was built to celebrate the glory of
the Roman Empire. In the evening, the entire group
went shopping and the girl cashier at the shop had her
hands full while handling all of us.
Our trip to the European paradise would have been
incomplete without visiting the ‘The Vatican City’
which is in the shape of a key and is the smallest
country of the world. On reaching here, we were
escorted by the guide into the Vatican Museum to
explore an extensive collection of art. Michelangelo’s
famous creation of Adam Fresco in the Sistine Chapel
is one of the most notable pieces of art. The walking
tour to St. Peter’s Basilica was equally awe inspiring.
The Island of Capri located in Italy’s Gulf of Naples
near Mt. Vesuvius was the last destination of this trip.
Our visit to this place became super special as we
were taken to the most famous natural landmark on
the island - The Blue Grotto, a dark cavern where the
sea glows electric blue. Its entrance is so small that we
had to lie on our backs in row boats to get in. It was
one of the most picturesque places we visited.
This trip not only provided us with an opportunity
to travel to another country, we also brought back an
array of unforgettable memories and gained a learning
experience like no other. This sojourn indeed has
created a lasting impression on all of us as it was full
of fun, excitement, sharing, caring and learning which
we will all cherish for a long time to come.
