THE NEW TESTAMENT: AUTHORSHIP AND CORRUPTION 299

Those who argue that some of Jesus' teachings are still present in the
gospel accounts miss the point; namely, that these words may be present
in letter but not inspirit. Of what use are edicts concerning charity and love,
when the entire religion itself has been subverted fromJesus' original in-
tentions (as witnessed in Q) to that of the worship ofJesus Christ as the
Son of God and of salvation through the belief that he was crucified for
                            the sins of all mankind?
\,ye have come very far indeed from the world of isniids, reading certif-
icates, the law of witness, personal contact, the ~tiffii;;;, 'Uthman's Mushaf,
and a holy text that has remained unequivocally pure for over fourteen
centuries. The disparity is midday sunshine versus the darkest shades of
night, and this contrast fuels the efforts of those who are accustomed to
the Biblical Scriptures, and who find it inconceivable that another Book
received far greater care from the Almighty and successfully escaped the
                            pitfalls of time.
