                                The capital of Cambodia’s Khmer Empire was both a sacred

                                   and cosmopolitan city, welcoming religious pilgrims and

                               merchants alike. Abandoned in the 1400s, Angkor’s splendor

                                          would not fade but endure through the centuries.
