Residents
Kevin Wang, PGY5 Medical Oncology Resident for receiving:
The Medical Oncology Training Program Annual Research Day Award for his oral
presentation on the paper Utility of point-of-care genomic profiling in the diag-
nosis and treatment of cancer of unknown primary.
The Joseph M. West Family Memorial Fund for $8100 from the Faculty of Medicine
at the University of Toronto.
Mitchell Elliot, PGY4 Medical Oncology Resident for receiving the UHN Department
of Medicine Outstanding Housestaff Award from the University Health Network.
This award is selected by UHN staff as one of the top 5 residents in the Internal
Medicine program per year.
Fellows
Congratulations to Dr. Carly Barron for receiving the 2022 Canadian Asso-
ciation of Medical Oncologists (CAMO) Fellowship Award for the project “Cross
tumor-comparison of the tumor immune-microenvironment, peripheral immune
signatures and response to immunotherapy as a novel conceptual model in
aerodigestive tumors”. Dr. Barron’s supervisors were Drs. Elena Elimova and Adrian
Sacher. Dr. Barron also received the Robert V. Brady Award, which recognizes
healthcare workers in the PM Cancer Program that go above and beyond every
day in many ways by demonstrating excellence in education for patient care,
creating or supporting innovative treatments and programs and by displaying
exemplary compassion, advocacy and patient care.
Congratulations to Dr. Alberto Hernando Calvo for receiving the following grants:
(1) Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Research Foundation pilot grant 2022-2023 for the
project “Dynamic Evaluation of Liquid biopsies in patients with recurrent or meta-
static (R/M) Salivary gland tumor (SGT) Histologies (DELISH)”. His supervisor is Dr.
Aaron Hansen. (2) Hold’em for Life Oncology Fellowship 2022 grant for the project
“External validation of the VIGEX gene-expression signature as a novel predictive
biomarker for immuno-oncology (IO) treatments”. His supervisor is Dr. Philippe
Bedard.
