yogurt and juice to soups and sauces, from condiments and
cereal to sandwich bread and protein bars. Who wants to blow
                      their sugar budget on soup?
So, look to those processed foods and the not-even-sweet-
tasting high-sugar foods as the first places to start slashing
your sugar. Cut back on added sugar without being maniacal
about it; there’s a lot of deliciousness and joy to be experi-
enced in your lifetime, much of which can involve sweets. A
fresh-baked summer cobbler. Made-with-love Sunday morning
pancakes. Homemade holiday cookies. The adrenaline rush of
discovery as you soak up the myriad concoctions of cultures
other than your own, whether in your own neighborhood,
road-tripping around the United States, or traveling abroad.
If you’re cutting down on added sugars in other places in
your diet, and treating dessert as the treat it’s meant to be—
a few times a week at most—then you’ll probably have the
added-sugar budget left over to enjoy some of the simple plea-
                      sures in life.
