for broiler chickens—from Compass Group and Aramark, the
earliest adopters, to Au Bon Pain, Burger King, Chipotle, Jack
in the Box, Pret A Manger, Red Robin, Sodexo, Starbucks,
and Subway, as well as Royal Caribbean Cruises, Blue Apron,
sweetgreen, and Pollo Tropical more recently. The compli-
ance date for nearly all of them is 2024. But no chain has a
greater influence on the marketplace than McDonald’s. This is
because of its sheer size. Unfortunately, it sets its own animal
welfare policy, which the coalition considers less ambitious.
Similarly, more than 200 large food companies—
McDonald’s, IHOP, and Cheesecake Factory, as well as some
of the same ones that are on board with the broiler chicken
policies, like Aramark, Compass Group, Jack in the Box,
