English Egyptologist Howard Carter excavates the golden
sarcophagusofTutankhamen.Afteraseven-yearsearch,
Carter discovered the pharaoh’s tomb on 4 November
1922. Despite showing signs of being robbed at least
twice in antiquity, the tomb is one of the best
preserved ever found, containing over 5,000
items—includingaroyalchariot,atrumpet,
weapons, wall paintings and, of course,
Tutankhamen’s mummified remains.
