Gochisō-sama deshita. In other cases, splitting bills (warikan 割り勘) among
attendees is common. In some cases, set fees (kai-hi 会費) are collected
beforehand. Be prepared to bar-hop as the party rarely ends after one stop (niji-
kai 二次会 “after-party”, sanji-kai 三次会 “after-after-party”).
PATTERN PRACTICE 7
Cue: Osake, nomitai nā. I want to drink sake.
Response: Nomi ni ikanai? Why don’t we go and drink?
Cue: Sushi tabetai nā. I want to eat sushi.
Response: Tabe ni ikanai? Why don’t we go and eat?
