       The largest Baroque building
       in Budapest, this edifice was
       completed in 1735 to a design
       by the architect Anton Erhard
       Martinelli. It was originally a
       hospital for veterans of the war
       between the Christians and
       Turks at the end of the 17th
       century (see pp28–9).
         In 1894 the city authorities
       bought the building in order
       to convert it into council
