               Zákynthos Town

The elegant capital and principal port of the island of the
same name, Zákynthos Town boasts beautiful squares,
arcaded streets and an attractive waterfront, where
colourful fishing boats bustle in and out of the harbour.
Although the town dates back centuries, its buildings
were all but destroyed in the 1953 earthquake that
shook the Ionian Islands. It has been sensitively rebuilt
in a Venetian Neo-Classical style, in its original layout.
