Japanese Macaque
These beautifully furry ‘snow monkeys’ display a range of behaviour that is
startlingly human, from bathing to baby-sitting, from flavouring their food to
snowball fights! In fact, Japanese macaques have become a favourite with
researchers thanks to their intelligence and complex social lives.
Teeth
Despite the male’s impressive-
looking canine teeth, macaques
are mainly frugivores (fruit-
eaters), although their diet
varies through the year.
