The Setting Sun
According to ancient Greek
mythology, the sun lights
the world as it is pulled across
the sky by the god Helios,
riding a chariot. The Greek
Islands, with their endless,
reflective horizons of water,
offer countless vistas to

GREEK ISLANDS FOR
SUNSEEKERS
The Greek word for sunbathing is iliotherapía, which translates as “sun
therapy”, and there are endless spots to benefit from warming rays
throughout the islands, from isolated islets to pumping party beaches.
Hidden Coves
With countless coves and
innumerable islets, one of
the delights of any Greek
island is finding a patch of
sand to yourself – without
the distractions of a sunbed
or music pumping from the
nearby bars. Go hunting
for a secluded bay on the
southwestern tip of Corfu
(p64) or on the dramatic
island of Folégandros (p219).
You can also easily find an
isolated spot on the 9-km
(5-mile) stretch of Lésvos’
famous Vatera beach.
