                           Despite the 1956 earthquake
                           you can still see vestiges of
                           Firá’s architectural glory from
                           the 17th and 18th centuries,
                           on Nomikoú and Erythroú
                           Stavroú where several man­
                           sions have been restored.
                             In the northeasterly suburb
                           of Kondohóri, the Lignos
                           Folklore Museum offers a
                           fascinating glimpse at pre­
                           tourism island life. The 19th­
                           century cave­house features
                           reconstructed work shops
                           of bygone trades, inclu ding
                           a kánava (dugout winery),
                           showing the age of the wine
                           trade here. The pretty ochre
                           chapel of Agios Stylianós,   Pottery on display  in
                           clinging to the edge of a cliff,   the Archaeological
                           is a worth while detour on the   Museum in Firá
                           way to the Frankish quarter,
                           with its maze of streets.
