Must See
Despite the 1956 earthquake
you can still see vestiges of
Firá’s architectural glory from
the 17th and 18th centuries,
on Nomikoú and Erythroú
Stavroú where several man
sions have been restored.
In the northeasterly suburb
of Kondohóri, the Lignos
Folklore Museum offers a
fascinating glimpse at pre
tourism island life. The 19th
century cavehouse features
reconstructed work shops
of bygone trades, inclu ding
a kánava (dugout winery),
showing the age of the wine
trade here. The pretty ochre
chapel of Agios Stylianós, Pottery on display in
clinging to the edge of a cliff, the Archaeological
is a worth while detour on the Museum in Firá
way to the Frankish quarter,
with its maze of streets.
