Five buildings in the northeast corner of Ueno Park make up one of Tokyo’s
finest museums. Displaying everything from kimonos to archaeological finds,
it provides an intriguing insight into Japan’s history and culture.
More than 110,000 items make up the Tokyo National Museum’s
collection – the best assembly of Japanese art in the world –
and the displays change frequently, with about 4,000 of these
exhibits on public view at any one time. The museum also stages Did You Know?
temporary exhibitions, covering art from around the world. If
you only have a couple of hours to spare, stick to the second The Tokyo National
floor of the Honkan gallery. With audio guides, tours, and Museum is the oldest
good signage in English, it’s a great introduction to Japanese museum in Japan.
