Founded in 1900 as the Art Museum of Toronto, the Art Gallery
of Ontario (AGO) holds an extensive collection of fine art and
modern sculpture spanning the first century to present day.
An iconic structure in the city, the AGO is hard to miss. The billowing
titanium and glass facade was an add-on by Canadian-born architect
Frank Gehry. Inside, the magnificent art collections are bathed in natural light.
The outstanding works of Canadian art are a national treasure. Along with
an extensive collection of superb Henry Moore drawings, maquettes, and
sculptures (which were donated by the artist himself), the gallery exhibits
significant masterpieces of European art, including paintings by Tintoretto,
Frans Hals, Rubens, and Picasso. More recent acquisitions include an
impressive collection of African and Australian Aboriginal art.
