Brightest starfish
One of the hardiest of
the oceans’ sea stars
The necklace or red tile sea star, Fromia
monilis, is a hardy starfish that is bright
red on the tips of its arms and in its
centre. It lives in shallow waters and can
be found in rocky areas in the Indian and
West Pacific Oceans, from the Andaman
Islands to Australia and Japan. It feeds on
sponges and small invertebrates.
