They may appear very different, but all the animals
shown here are mammals, a group that also includes 1 CETACEANS
humans. Mammals are endothermic (warm-blooded) Whales, porpoises, and dolphins

       2 CARNIVORES
       These mammals are hunters and
scavengers that feed largely on meat.
                                                   2
       Carnivores include tigers and other
members of the cat family, along with
wolves, foxes, otters, and bears. Most are
fast-moving, locate prey using their good
senses of sight, smell, and hearing, and
have sharp teeth to grip and cut flesh.

       found in Australasia and the
       Americas, and include kangaroos,
       koalas, and opossums. Female
       marsupials give birth to tiny,
immature young that complete Kangaroo 4

       mother’s pouch.

       4 ODD-TOED UNGULATES
Ungulates walk on the tips of their
toes, each of which is capped
       with a hard hoof. Odd-toed
       ungulates have either one
       or three working toes, and
       include rhinos, horses, zebras,
and tapirs. All are herbivores and
       many species are fast movers
       that live on open plains.

       5 LAGOMORPHS
       Rabbits and hares are lagomorphs—
       fast-moving ground-dwellers that
eat grasses, soft shoots, and tree
bark. Their large ears are highly
       sensitive, and their bulging
