Exploring Poland
Bordering the Baltic Sea, Poland is one of the largest
countries of Central Europe, with a population of around
39 million. Warsaw, the capital, is located at the center of
Poland, on the banks of the River Vistula (Wisła). Its location
makes it an ideal base for visiting other cities, such as
Krakow, the ancient royal capital; Gdańsk, the Hanseatic
city whose shipyards gave birth to Solidarity; and Poznań,
one of the oldest Polish cities. Krakow is one of the
country’s greatest treasures, offering excursions to the
Polish mountains and the Krakow-Częstochowa Valley.
