Exterior of Museum
The museum’s curvilinear limestone exterior gives it a natural,
weathered effect. It is set in a landscape of flowing water, hard
wood forest, meadowland, and croplands, to reflect the American
Indian’s connection to the land.
Window on Collections
Interactive technology allows
for a selfguided tour of the
exhibits. Shown here is a peace
medal that once belonged to
Powder Face, an Arapaho.

Gallery Guide
Begin your visit with the “Who We Are” multimedia
presentation at the Lelawi Theater (4th floor). The
three permanent exhibitions on this level are “Our Window on Collections: Many
Universes,” “Our Peoples.” While “Our Lives” and Hands, Many Voices
“Window on Collections” are on the 3rd floor, as Over 3,500 objects are on display,
well as two temporary exhibition spaces. On the including dolls, beaded objects,
ground level is a shop and the Mitsitam café. and artwork.
