Exploring South Holland

In the north of the province of South Holland are the colourful
bulb fields and the Keukenhof, while in a semi-circle to the
south lie the old university town of Leiden, bustling The
Hague, cosy Delft and the modern port city of Rotterdam.
The islands of South Holland bear witness to the country’s
military history in Hellevoetsluis and Brielle. Ramblers will
find all they wish for in the dunes by Wassenaar or in the river BU LB FIELDS KEUKENHOF
countryside at Leerdam, which is best known for its glass- The 14th-century Huys Dever, near Lisse LISSE
blowing industry. From Gorinchem you can take a passenger Noordwijk

Getting Around
South Holland has a comprehensive system of roads, Oude-Tonge
and both big cities and small towns can be reached
equally quickly. However, during the morning and
afternoon rush hours you should watch out for traffic
jams. In the centres of the big cities it is best to leave
your car in a car park, as finding an on-street parking
space can often be a problem. Trains are a fast way of
getting from A to B. As a rule you will find a train for your
particular destination departing every quarter or half
hour. Lisse and the bulbfields, Nieuwpoort and the
towns on South Holland’s islands can be reached only
by local bus. VVV and ANWB tourist information offices
