Exploring Limburg MOOK

Noord Limburg is made up of the Peel and the Maas
regions. Between the River Maas and the German border Gennep
are nature reserves with fens, woodland, heathland and
river dunes. The former wilderness known as the
Peelgebied is on the border with North Brabant. Middle Maas
Limburg is the section from the Maasplassen lakes,
which were created by the digging of gravel pits. It is Nieuw-Bergen
now one of the most important watersports areas in the
country. Zuid Limburg consists of Maastricht, the Well
Mijnstreek (mining country) and the pretty chalk-hill Picking asparagus in Noord Limburg
landscape to the south.

Limburg is easily reached by rail and by road, ROERMOND
which are also the best ways to explore it. The THORN
motorways and railways invariably follow the
same routes, that is to say: Nijmegen–Venlo– Maasbracht DE MEINWEG
Roermond–Geleen–Maastricht, Weert– Posterholt
(Roermond)–Geleen–Maastricht and, finally, the
triangle Maastricht–Geleen–Heerlen. For cyclists 0 kilometres 10 Julianakanaal
there are long sections of cycle paths along the 0 miles 10 Echt
Julianakanaal and the Zuid-Willemsvaart. The
south of Zuid Limburg in particular is simply Susteren
ideal for cycling (including racing) and rambling.
The tourist railway or “environmental line” from
Schin near Geul to Kerkrade via Wijlre, Eys and Maas SITTARD
Simpelveld operates from April to October on
Sundays and most Wednesdays and Thursdays, Stein
