DEATH FROM ABOVE
The Hindenburg explodes over New Jersey as it comes into
land. Caused by a static spark igniting hydrogen leaking
from the balloon, fire consumed the German airship
before it crashed into the Lakehurst Naval Air Station.
The disaster killed 35 passengers and crew, plus one
worker on the ground. The zeppelin’s very public
destruction also signalled the death knell
for the entire airship industry.
