FOOTBALL’S COMING HOME
England captain Bobby Moore holds the World Cup
aloft after the country won the football tournament
for the first (and only) time since it began in 1930.
Beating West Germany 4-2, the victory was all the
more momentous because it was won on home
turf, with England hosting the competition and
the match played at London’s Wembley
                                 Stadium. Queen Elizabeth II personally
                                    awarded the team their trophy.
