Until the early 19th century there
were several public buildings on
Market Square: the Town Hall,
the Small Weigh-House, the
Large Weigh-House and a pillory.
The 70 m- (230 ft-) high Town
Hall Tower is, unfortunately, the
only structure to have survived.
The Gothic Town Hall itself was
remodelled many times and
finally demolished in 1846.
The present dome is Baroque.
The tower houses a branch
of the Museum of Krakow
dedicated to the history of local
government and is a venue
for the Ludowy Theatre.
