                                                                                                 It is not unusual for a dummy user to wake
                                                                                                 for help finding it at night. However, you
                                                                                                 describe that your child does not seem
                                                                                                 well rested and is tired in the day, and this
                                                                                                 indicates that over-tiredness is increasing his
                                                                                                 vulnerability to nighttime dummy activity.
                                                                                                   You may need to help him achieve greater
                                                                                                 quality sleep, and possibly more sleep both
                                                                                                 by day and overnight. At this age, I would
                                                                                                 anticipate two naps per day; a shorter first
                                                                                                 nap and a longer second nap that is finished
                                                                                                 by around 3pm. I would also suggest that
                                                                                                 there is no longer than four hours between
                                                                                                 his second nap and bedtime, to avoid him
                                                                                                 becoming overtired. Finally, teach him to use
                                                                                                 the dummy himself. Always put his dummy
                                                                                                 into his hand and guide his hand to his
                                                                                                 mouth. In time, he will master it himself. LW
