THE MOTHER OF CALCUTTA
Mother Teresa, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning nun who
devoted her life to working with the sick and poor, died
20 years ago on 5 September. Born Agnes Bojaxhiu
in Macedonia, she took the name Sister Theresa
in Ireland, where she began her training as a
nun. In 1950, she founded the Missionaries of
Charity and worked in the slums of Calcutta.
She ran the order for half a century,
spreading it to 130 countries.
